STATE SPECIAL PROTECTED AREA TO BE EXPANDED BY 1.3 MLN HECTARES

At its regular meeting on August 21, the Cabinet backed a draft parliamentary resolution on taking some areas under state special protection and altering the frontier lines of some areas and decided to submit it to the Parliament. The areas are considered having untamed nature, natural unique formations or historical, cultural, scientific and ecological significance.
Areas to be newly added to the State Special Protected Area cover 13 soums of six aimags. As the areas are taken under special protection, the total size of protected area will be expanded with 1,298,047 hectares (or 0.83 percent). As a result, the total special protected area will make up 32,759,268 hectares or 20.94 percent of total territory of Mongolia.
